Our Favorite Los Angeles Ice Cream Shops

At Peddler’s Creamery, ice cream is churned by bike-really. And yes, you can get a free scoop if you devote some time to churning. (We think it’s way more fun than biking at the gym.) Flavors at their DTLA location rotate, so we can’t be sure our favorites will be available when you visit, but if you happen to catch the Pancake Batter, Mexican Chocolate, or Salted Chocolate Crunch, make sure you order them. You can also snag pints at the Downtown Los Angeles Whole Foods.

LA is home to lots of transplants and luckily Salt & Straw is one of them. The ice cream shop has become so popular that there are now five locations.  The original store is in Portland, Oregon and the LA stores have LA-specific flavors as well as classics. Try the Black Olive Brittle & Goat Cheese, Honey Lavender, and seasonal flavors like Rhubarb Crumble with Toast Anise. Can’t decide? Salt & Straw has ice cream flights so you can try four scoops. (And we won’t judge you if you eat ice cream before dinner…or for dinner.)

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

Jeni’s is another transplant that has gained popularity in Los Angeles. The shop comes from Ohio and now has four locations in LA.  The Venice location is close to the ocean on Rose Avenue so it’s perfect for a post-beach treat. There are dozens of flavors available at any time, and the selection can be overwhelming. Luckily you can sample a few before you commit. Make sure to try the Gooey Butter Cake.

 McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams

McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams is from Santa Barbara, but thankfully we have locations in Grand Central Market, Los Feliz, and Studio City. Their goal is to leave the world a little sweeter than they found it and we promise they’ll sweeten up your day. At their scoop shop you’ll find delicious flavors like Churros con Leche and Chocolate Covered Strawberries.
