And last—but certainly not least—we always end the experience with a flavor finale featuring buzz button lollipops and flavor tripping!
1601 Bar & Kitchen is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant that combines Sri Lankan flavors with French culinary techniques. Step behind two sliding doors into a cozy private room complete with a private bar. We love this spot because it has received Michelin Bib Gourmand status for 7 years straight, due to its excellent food, service, and ambiance. Reviewers rave about the delicious prix fixe private dining menu and the upscale minimalist vibes of the room. 1601 Bar & Kitchen offers a lot of customization on the menu you choose, as you can select the Chef’s Sampling Menu, a 6-course family-style menu, or customize it completely.

E&O Kitchen and Bar: Best for Team Building Events
E&O Kitchen and Bar takes you on a journey through the bold and vibrant flavors of Southeast Asia. We love how creative the Asian fusion dishes are, with menu highlights including the chicken satay with red miso peanut sauce and brown butter miso mochi cake. Most reviews about the private room centered around the reviewers experience at a company event there, so it’s clear that this is a popular private room for team building events. Reviewers enjoyed the flexibility of being able to eat family style or have courses come plated. Some mentioned that depending on the space you book and party size you may also have a dedicated bar tender as well.
Lolinda is a modern Argentinian Steakhouse with a dark, seductive ambiance. We love the sultry and rich vibe of the private room, it’s upstairs in a lofted area and has its own private bar. Reviewers reported having an excellent time at events ranging from Bachelorette parties to team building dinners. Reviewers reported that this space is perfectly suited for celebrations and that the moody atmosphere coupled with the private area was a really nice combination.
China Live is a culinary marketplace and restaurant located in the heart of Chinatown. We love that there’s beauty from no matter the size of your group, each with its own distinct ambiance and decor. Between the three floors of this immense restaurant there are a myriad of private dining rooms, each with its own vibe and ambiance. Space 88 on the top floor has a modern, industrial vibe and can seat up to 60, the Gold Mountain Lounge is moody and cozy and can seat 40, and the China Live Library is a bright and intimate room for 20. With so much variety your sure to find the perfect room for your event here at one of the best restaurants for large groups in SF!
Beretta is a moody and evocative Italian restaurant in the Mission District. We love the energy of Beretta, no matter the day of the week the place is hopping! Reviewers were impressed by the quantity and quality of food served when you select to dine family-style in the private room. Italian food is meant to be shared and lends itself perfectly to family-style dining. Reviewers also shout out how well-designed the private rooms here are, and note that the impeccable decor really heightens the event you host.
The Barrel Room is a cozy and inviting New American restaurant in North Beach. We love to start with the chef’s cheese selection and fresh fruit because it’s always seasonal and unique. Reviewers rave about the speakeasy vibes of the downstairs private room, saying it made the experience unique and distinct. Going along with the speakeasy theme, the cocktails were repeatedly shouted out for being a highlight of the dining experience. This is a great spot for hosting a bach party or birthday bash according to reviews.
The Wild is a beautiful open fire restaurant in FiDi serving up decadent Japanese-Californian cuisine. We love how the private room blends elegance with coziness and always makes us feel warm and inviting when we dine there. Reviewers had the same takeaway and consistently noted being impressed by the ambiance. The tasting menu got a lot of love as well, and reviewers report that it’s the best way to order here, especially since ingredients are selected seasonally and locally-sourced
Ernest is a market-driven Californian restaurant with a menu full of fun global flavors. This is one of Avital’s personal favorite restaurants which is amongst the many reasons we recommend it so highly! Although this is one of the more expensive restaurants on this list we gave it the best value accolade because reviewers consistently reported that portion sizes were super generous. They felt the money they spent on the prix fixe menu was representative of the level of service, depth of flavor, and satiety at the end of the meal. If you have the budget to book the Ernest private room, by all reports you won’t be leaving hungry!

Methodology for Evaluating Best Private Dining in San Francisco
We started by making a list of 30 private dining rooms in San Francisco we had either worked with or found by searching for private dining recommendations online. Then we started to read each restaurant’s private dining reviews extensively on Google, Yelp, and Tripadvisor, to see what people had to say about their experience hosting a private dining event there. We then narrowed the list down to the top 8 private dining restaurants most consistently receiving positive reviews and praise across all rating platforms.
Then we deeply evaluated those top 8 private dining rooms based on guest reviews, personal experience, and important factors to bookers (ability to accommodate dietary restrictions, private dining menu, pricing per person, etc). This is the data we’ll be reporting on in this list.
The two limitations to this analysis are, one, that positive vs. negative sentiment is ultimately subjective, and two, that there are only between 10-40 reviews per restaurant that were specifically about a private dining experience. A bigger sample size would have been a great asset but we feel confident there was enough user information on each restaurant’s private dining experience to make evidence-based recommendations worth reporting on.
FAQs About San Francisco Private Dining Rooms
Restaurants with private rooms in San Francisco are restaurants that have private spaces for groups to dine in and host events at. Private dining rooms and venues often cater to every occasion with customizable menus, flexible layouts, and AV options.
Sometimes, having your big group dine in the main space can be too loud or invasive for the goals of your event. A private space can make all the difference when attempting to pull off a successful team building event, birthday party, family reunion, milestone celebration, or entertaining clients.
Semi-private spaces are ideal for small, intimate gatherings when total privacy isn’t required. Large private dining rooms or full buyouts are more common for big parties and receptions. So what’s better depends on the vibe you’re going for. For small groups and lively energy, go with semi-private. For large groups and more exclusivity, go with a private room.
The cost of a private dining room in San Francisco can range widely, typically from $50–$100 per person on the low end and $300–$400 per person on the high end (at Michelin restaurants or when booking on peak dates). It all depends on the venue, location, time of day, and group size. Some venues may charge a room fee, while others may include food and beverage minimums. And don’t forget that gratuity, service fees, and tax can add 30% or more to the final price. It’s best to discuss your budget and needs with the restaurant to get an accurate quote.

Dietary Restrictions – Avital takes care of all dietary needs, ensuring everyone is included and cared for.
Simplified Pricing – Unlike traditional private dining, which is convoluted with minimums and gratuity, Avital offers clear and easy-to-understand pricing per person. Branded Opportunities – Customize materials, including menus and cocktail recipes, to reflect your brand. Great for client entertainment dinners.
Most San Francisco restaurants can accommodate dietary restrictions with enough notice, especially more common restrictions like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and allergies. Always check in advance because private dining menus are often set or prix-fixe, and restrictions reported during the meal may not be able to be accommodated. The rule is that earlier communication = a better guest experience when it comes to dietary restrictions.
For weekends and holidays, you should book 8–12 weeks in advance. For weekdays, book 4–6 weeks in advance. Also, bigger events or events with specific needs should book as early as possible.
Yes, most private dining rooms do require a deposit. It may be in the form of a flat amount or a percentage of the minimum spend. This deposit is often non-refundable, so be sure you’re highly confident you’re going to proceed with the restaurant you put down a deposit with.
Private dining events typically last 3-4 hours. If you’re looking to book a larger time block, it may cost extra. Always confirm timing in advance with the restaurant.
